Event
Design Montréal Open House adopts biennial format

The Design Montréal Open House event, which has been held annually since its founding, will now be organized every two years, to enable us to enrich its programming. The activity will return on May 4 and 5, 2013. It goes without saying that until then, we will be energetically pursuing our mission of promoting quality in design: throughout the year, look for us to continue organizing meetings between practitioners and Montrealers to showcase exemplary achievements in design and architecture.

Architecture competition
Les Architectes FABG wins the architecture competition for the Guy Gagnon Building in Verdun

The firm’s task will be to develop this new cultural presentation venue, including a professional-calibre concert hall. The project also provides for the redevelopment and expansion of École de cirque de Verdun. FABG’s entry stood out for the highlighting of the site’s proximity to the St. Lawrence River, the views onto the surrounding landscape, and the functional character of the whole. You are invited to follow the development of the project: construction begins in September!

UNESCO Creative Cities Network
Montréal to be represented at the Global Creative Cities Pecha Kucha in Nagoya, Japan

At the invitation of Nagoya, a UNESCO City of Design, designer and architect Jean Beaudoin will represent Montréal at a Pecha Kucha on February 23. His presentation, Montréal's Identity in 20 Mutations, profiles Montréal through its seasonal changes, architectural transformations and the many gatherings occurring at its multiple festivals. He will also present his work in the city: the lighting identity and plan for the Quartier des spectacles, temporary installations created for the Create Winter design competition, ephemeral summer festival places on “The Main,” and more. If you happen to be in Nagoya on that date, the Pecha Kucha is a must!
